HEAL
The Fact Friday post today is to hightlight the relatively new group on Guernsey, who are fighting for us to have the same drugs that would be available to us,  if we were living in the UK. Many of you have probably either heard about or read about this group, but for those of you who haven't I am giving you the link to their Facebook page. David and I attended the first meeting of this group…

Brain Fog
I know I have touched on this earlier in the year but it is such a common symptom of MS and one that I stuggle with, so I thought to share it again with you.  Brain fog can affect us in many different ways, our memory, spatial awareness, word finding, our ability to process information,  and our ability to organise and plan. i have chosen a different site for you to look at, but if you want…

The question of MS and Dairy products?

08/11/2019
  • Fact Friday
Dairy products and MS
There has been a lot of research into dairy and the affect on MS. A research back in 2010 in the journal of Autommune Disearch found that cow’s milk is not only high in saturated fat, but contains  two proteins in that can negatively affect people with MS.   See the full article below and a further article which I found  on the 'Overcoming MS' website. As with all the Fact Friday…

Seated Exercises
We all know that exercises are good for us.  However, if you have reduced mobility this can be difficult.  But by doing some gentle seated exercises, which can be done at home, you can help improve mobility and prevent falls. Beau Sejour have written a pamphlet entitled 'Seated Home Exercises' and have kindly let the MS Society have a link to them, so check them out…

Volunteer
I recently attended a meeting about the power of the voluntary sector organised by the Association of Guernsey Charities.  'Time Well Spent' is a major new report published in January 2019 by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations on the whole volunteering experince. I had not realised the huge impact that volunteering can have not only on the community but on the individual…

Smile . Amazon
Do you know about smile.amazon? I didn't until I was recently told about it. If you regulary shop on Amazon then by accessing the Amazon website through smile.amazon.co.uk  , you will be able to shop as usual,  but you are asked to choose a charity to donate to. Smile.Amazon  gives a % of the amount purchased to whichever charity you choose, so of course we would choose the MS Society!  …

Draft Proposals for New Discrimination Legislation
Today I am sharing with you the slides from a meeting the GDA held on the draft proposals for the New Discrimination Legislation. The proposals include why new legislation is needed and the many different types of discrimination there are. On one of the slides close to the end there are  two contact emails, should you want to find out more or just respond to the consultation.  For the Draft…

Beau Séjour Move Smart classes
Come and join in with the exercise classes held at Beau Sejour purely for people affected by MS! The MS Society, Guernsey,  are pleased to pay for these classes. The classes are held on a Wednesday morning, at either 9.30 or 10.30 a.m. Both of these classes are supervised by either Emma or Sam who are both lovely, helpful and patient. The classes take place, not in the main gym, but in a room…

Relaxing in the garden
When you have MS you are frequently told to pace yourself,  however, although while I know it is very sensible advice,  I still find it difficult to do. When I am having a good day it is just too tempting to achieve as much as I can in that day. Of course, I usually end up suffering for the next couple of days and I am sure I am not alone in this. Today, was a lot easier to act on that advice…
