Enabled Warrior

04/09/2020
  • Fact Friday
Enabled Warrior
'My Enabled Warrior Tracker' is a book written by Jessie Ace which was inspired by her own journey and struggles with MS. When she was first diagnosed with MS she used to make notes to track her own symptoms. Jessie soon realised that the notes were not really helpful for either herself or her doctors. This gave her the idea to write a book and she enlisted the help of doctors and other people…

The MS Hellvetia Team
A big thank you to Alissa, Aggie and Barnie who did a wonderful job for us competing in the Hellvetia mini-triathlon Challenge yesterday. They kindly all wore orange MS shirts which made them easy to pick out, except Alissa who obviously took hers off to swim!

Well done and THANK YOU Ben.
A big thank you goes to Ben De Jersey for achieving his 24 hour rowathon last weekend to raise funds for the Guernsey MS Society.  Despite numerous challenges throughout the night Ben persevered and kept going until the 24hr mark.   We were hugly relieved that this event was able to go ahead. Since the outbreak of the Coronavirus the MS Society UK has not allowed any events to take place…

Can Mindfulness help us?
Ok so please don’t be put off by the title. I know this is a word banded about a lot these days but let’s look at what it actually means.  Basically, it involves becoming more aware of the present moment which can help us to enjoy the world around us more. Mindfulness is claimed to have a range of benefits such as a decrease in stress, treat heart disease, lower blood pressure, reduce…

Phew it's been hot!

Phew it's been hot!
It’s quite ironic that earlier in the week I decided on today’s Fact Friday due to the recent high temperatures we have been experiencing, today now being a lot cooler. I think, maybe, that I am unusual in that I love the sun and the hot days, but I know that many with MS feel their symptoms worsen when they are hot. Back in 1890 a German neuro-ophthalmologist, Wilhelm Uhthoff, began to…

Up-date on classes
Sadly, MS UK have instructed us to cancel all exercise and remedial therapy sessions until further notice due to Covid-19 concerns, DESPITE Guernsey's unique position.   If you have been attending any of these sessions, your therapist will notify you directly. We are working to reverse this decision, and will keep you informed.

Get fit to feel good
It is back in March 2019 that I last wrote about the benefits of exercise so I thought it was time to mention it again.  It seems even more important in these current and strange times the world finds itself in. The benefits of exercise include an increase in energy, helps relieve depression, helps with relaxation and sleep, good for both muscles and bones, increases interaction with other…
