Thanks to the people of Guernsey all pulling together, the island is in the enviable position of moving to stage 5 on Saturday allowing normal life to resume, with the exception of travel.   This means that the Movesmart classes will be back to normal times next week.  The first class starting at 9.30am and the second class following at 10.30am.

Complete 26 of your choice
If you have ever fancied having a go at running a marathon to raise money for charity, but then quickly dismissed it as a challenge too far, then this could be for you. The MS UK have organised a challenge for the month of July based around the number 26.  This could be 26 meters, miles, minutes, cupcakes, really anything that you enjoy doing.  Your hobby could be dancing, knitting…

The benefits of learning a second language
Ever thought of learning a new language? Previous studies have shown that learning a second language could support the fight against developing dementia.  Now studies have also shown that learning a second language could help expand areas of the brain that have been damaged by MS. For many years my husband has teased me as wherever we have travelled I have come home with the notion of learning…

Movesmart to restart
Good news,  MoveSmart classes are starting again next Wednesday 10th June. The classes will be limited to 5 people, but I don't think that is an issue for us.  If you attended the 9.30am class, then the time has slightly changed to allow a 15min clean before each session.  So the first class is now at 9.15am for an hour, finishing at 10.15am and the second class remains the same at 10.30am. We…

Air Pollution
Scientists have linked Air Pollution to the risk of getting MS. Even though, as we are so lucky to life on a beautiful island with very little air pollution, it makes an interesting read. In this strange, unusual and for many, sad times time, it has been noticeable how the wildlife has changed with less cars on the road and very few planes above us.  In our garden we have seen many more birds…

I am just writing to advise you that Debbie Robillard is back in her normal role after being redeployed and working either from the PEH or home. All the services are still greatly reduced but welfare calls and ensuring everyone is ok is still a high priority. It is with much sadness that we report the death of 'Liz' Hendry on 27/04/20. Liz and her late husband Ron had many years of association with MS. Liz ran many of the social events and for over 20 yrs organised the 'coffee afternoons' with her wonderful home made bakes. She was also secretary for several years and supported her husband Ron who was treasurer. She missed Ron terribly when he died…

Exercises you can do at home
In these strange and difficult times where, to keep ourselves safe, we are not venturing out of the house much, it is still important we keep moving and exercising as much as possible. Please find below a link to a range of exercises on the MS You Tube channel that you can do at home: https://www.youtube.com/user/MSSociety/search?query=move+with+ms
