Relaxing in the garden
When you have MS you are frequently told to pace yourself,  however, although while I know it is very sensible advice,  I still find it difficult to do. When I am having a good day it is just too tempting to achieve as much as I can in that day. Of course, I usually end up suffering for the next couple of days and I am sure I am not alone in this. Today, was a lot easier to act on that advice…

La Villette Hotel Lunch
We are once again holding a joint social lunch with the Parkinson’s Society. This time the venue is La Villette Hotel, St. Martins. After the previous lunch, some of you asked if there could be two courses in preference to three. However, being mindful of what the establishments could offer, in terms of parking etc, we chose the Villette, where unfortunately there were no two course options…

Massage
It is well established that massage and relaxation are highly beneficial for people with MS. As most of you know I personally have MS and I regularly go to Tammy’s for a massage which I find both beneficial and beautifully relaxing. Once the gates automatically swing open you enter Tammy’s Beauty Cabin and an ‘oasis of calm’ located just off the Forest Road.  Tammy has over 20 years…

Healthy outdoors
A five year study carried out by scientists have backed up what we all thought, living in green leafy areas may be good for our hearts, and gives us a positive sense of well being. The good news though is if you live in an area of Guernsey with few trees, then even an outing to a park could still provide you with some of the health benefits.   Of course, living in Guernsey whichever parish we…

Cladribine tablets
Guernsey has just approved the use of Cladribine (Mavenclad) for people with highly active MS. Cladribine works by killing certain types of cells made by your immune system.  These cells would normally attack viruses and bacteria that enter the body. However, in MS these cells attack the myelin around the nerves in the brain or spinal cord.  Cladribine therefore has the result of reducing the…

Remyelination in MS
For those of us living with MS, the word demyelination is often discussed.  The term remyelination describes the repair of the myelin sheath. A healthy brain can replace damaged myelin however  for someone with MS, the disease progression interferes with this. Much research is being done to find a way to repair this myelin sheath for those living with MS. For more information please click the…

Drawing of Sean Connery
The term 'Wellness', in today's busy world, is regularly used but what can that mean for people with Multiple Sclerosis.   We know we need to exercise, as much as our bodies will allow.  However, there is also growing scientific research supporting the use of crafts, and the positive impact crafting can have on our wellness. Research has shown that crafting can have a positive impact on…
